We are thrilled to finally launch this website as a space to connect, educate and inspire our members and the community surrounding us.
Who are we? The CQUMS was established in late 2022 as means of providing a platform for medical students at Central Queensland University. Our focus on regional medicine, promoting work-life balance and fostering meaningful relationships is what sets us apart from other medical societies.
The CQU Medical Society is built around 5 main objectives:
Foster a supportive community for students on the Regional Medical Pathway, facilitating a seamless transition from high school to university.
Cultivate a supportive social network among RMP students, nurturing values essential for a career in medicine.
Facilitate academic and professional growth by organising informative sessions on diverse medical career paths.
Advocate for the significance of Indigenous and rural healthcare, emphasizing its importance in the medical field.
Promote active involvement in local communities through organised volunteering programs, fostering meaningful connections and outreach opportunities.
Our goal at CQUMS is to enable medical students to evolve into outstanding professionals by offering platform cultivating growth and achievement. We recognise the importance of honing skills, forging connections, and making meaningful contributions to society; the CQUMS is dedicated to equipping our members with the necessary tools and support for their success.
Why the website? Since our inception, the medical society has evolved into many different sectors that deal with different aspects of the society like academic and social events. The goal of this website is to host a forum that ties together all parts of our society into one cohesive platform, enabling our 120+ medical student body to gain access to all of our events, resources and future goals.
Why the blog? This blog space was designed as a means to share interesting and useful information with the students. As such, we encourage any students who may have something interesting to share to get in contact with the society execs as we’d love to assist in sharing your message! We currently don’t have a set schedule as to publishing blog posts however this is something we are looking into with input from you guys, so reach out and let us know what you think!
Upcoming events! A few memorable events to look out for include our annual med ball (2024 edition) and our upcoming suturing workshops! The med ball is the society’s major intercohort event where both Bundaberg and Rockhampton cohorts get to meet (for the first time for some!) and interact with each other and lecturers. Be sure to check out our events calendar for a more detailed insight into our upcoming events.
As we embark on this journey together, we invite you to join us in shaping the future of rural healthcare.
A huge welcome to all the members of the CQUMS. We look forward to the journey ahead!
